Lil Wayne really needs no introduction on the hip hop scene. The Lollipop singer has had a long career that spans over 20 years and he is set to drop another album. Over the course of his long and successful career, Wayne also known as Weezy has released four different albums among which Tha Carter IV and Tha Carter IV have been the most the most successful of his four studio albums. Weezy has also dropped several hit singles over the course of his career.
Tilted The Carter V, the album will be Wayne’ fifth studio album. Information has now come to light that the album has been held back owing to delays caused by issues with Wayne’s former record label, Cash Money Records. According to reports, on June 7, 2018, Lil Wayne’s representatives confirmed that Wayne’s had been released from his contract with the said record label. Following his departure from Cash Money Records, Lil Wayne has also become the sole owner of Young Money Label transitioning from a 51-49 joint partnership, (talk about coming into one’s own). Young Money is known for its smashing hits like Roger That, a single that featured then upcoming Nicki Minaj, and Bedrock that featured several acts like Drake, Tyga, Young Lloyd and Gucci Mane.
The album had been announced by Wayne as far back as November 2012 who stated that would drop the curtain on his career as he wants to focus on his kids who are a vital point in their lives. He spoke about the much anticipated album again in July, 2014 stating the album will reflect growth and maturity. From what we have been able to gather, Lil Wayne began working on the album around May 2014 as he reunited with his long-time producer; Mannie Fresh in a bid to kick start his final project, this was made known after an announcement from Mannie Fresh himself who was formerly an artist on the books of Cash Money Records. The album has definitely been in the works for long and there have been indicators to the fact that it would eventually be released even when it was not forthcoming. In July 2012, Drake posted on Twitter “Carter V”, and in February 2014, Wayne and Drake said that the much anticipated album would be released on the 5th of May, 2015. Fast forward to 2018 and rumours and speculation about the yet to be released album are still swirling. 0n the 20th of September, Reginae Carter, Lil Wayne’s daughter dropped a teaser on her Instagram page as she shared “V” giving the general public a strong sense of hope as regards the album. Unfortunately, she did not post any information as regards when the album would eventually be released but she has definitely fanned the flames with her post.
In related news, Lil Wayne is also set to receive BET’s I am Hip Hop Award at the upcoming 2018 BET Hip Hop Awards next month in Miami. The event is slated for the 16th of October, 2018.
