Hypnosis works similarly to yoga, therapy, and flossing. Science has even attested to the effectiveness of hypnosis in calming anxiety, fear and stress. If you have never tried hypnosis, maybe you should. If you do, here are some things that you might experience.
When it is your first time, there is most likely that you would be very nervous. You would definitely be very very nervous. You would feel all the kinds of spooky feelings that you can get right before you go in for your appointment. This is natural because you have no experience or idea about what hypnosis feels like. You could start thinking about the dangerous things that could happen during hypnosis according to the fictional stories and movies you have seen. Thoughts like, what if you get stuck in the hypnotic state? Or what if you wake up without any memory of your past life?
You do not have anything to worry about. Hypnosis is a very safe and intentional procedure. So, you have nothing to fear. You can not be hypnotized without your consent. You can only be hypnotized when you are really calm and open minded.
Another thing that might happen if you are hypnotized is that you might begin to say things that you would not naturally tell anyone. It gives you unrestricted expression of both good and bad. Usually, the hypnotherapist would respect your privacy if you did not agree on going into those places. The session usually starts with identification of goals and objectives. Whatever you agree on at this part of the session is what would guide the hypnotherapist when the proper hypnosis starts.
One other thing is that you might get emotional. You might feel like the hypnotherapist is your best-friend and you should cry and their shoulders. They would not mind, because it is actually a part of their job. And yes, you might shed tears. You might even cry out loud like a baby, because hypnosis takes down all the walls that you may have put up as defenses. So, you will be extremely expressive. This is bound to happen especially if you have been strong, holding in the emotions that you have felt but not expressed in a long while. Everything will come out during the hypnosis.
Sometimes, you might feel disturbed. This is very common when you are resisting the hypnosis or trying to hide something. The session is supposed to help you free up your mind in relation to whatever goal you might have set before the hypnosis. So there is the possibility that you might twitch is you are holding on to something you should let go. Another interesting thing is that your hypnotherapist will know when this is happening because they will perceive some kind of movements called the ‘abreactions’.
Other things that might happen is that you include losing track of time, feeling light because you have been unburdened, getting a drive to do positive things, and seeing immediate changes in your life. Hypnosis is usually very fast with its healing process.
