Mercedes Martinez was born in Connecticut and took up an interest in wrestling after a basketball injury she suffered while in college. She began training professionally in 2000 under Jason Knight and took down a male wrestler in her first match that same year. She debuted publicly in 2001 in New England Championship Wrestling and in 2005 wrestled in the exclusive women’s wrestling event, Shimmer Women Athletes.
From there, Martinez went on to wrestle in Ring of Honor in New York and World Xtreme Wrestling where she both won and was also defeated.

Banks officially debuted in the independent realm in 2010 in New England Championship Wrestling.

The lawsuit was eventually settled outside of the courts and Sable returned to the WWF (now WWE) in 2003. But just a year later in 2004, Sable decided to leave the WWE and began performing in New Japan Pro Wrestling. She stayed in the promotion for just one year before retiring from wrestling altogether.
