For many, organization is a custom of self-care. Everyone knows that if you’re sitting in an untidy room, you’ll feel a sense of chaos, and it will be harder to concentrate. Though toddlers bring us joy, the moment they start walking, they’ll turn the house upside down. It may be hard, but don’t give up so quickly, because staying organized with a toddler in the house is, in fact, possible. There are simple moves you can follow to help maintain a sense of order. Here are some tips on how to keep your house tidy when living with a toddler!
Let’s be real; it only takes a few minutes for a toddler to make a perfectly clean room and turn it into a disaster area. If we wait until the end of the day to clean up — we’d probably have an anxiety attack. Though we don’t recommend continually following your kid around picking up each mess as it appears, we do suggest you make a point to clean up over the day. Spend a few minutes here and there; we promise you it’ll be more accessible and make you feel better than waiting until the end of the day.
Storage Bins
Everyone knows that against our best efforts, toddlers tend to get bored. And when they do, they throw the toy they were playing with aside and move onto the next. Placing many small storage bins all around the house makes cleaning these clusters of toys up easy. This way, there is always somewhere to put random blocks, dolls, and trucks that would otherwise make a mess. The bins don’t need to be something you loathe; they can complement your home decor and naturally blend into your room!
If your kid is old enough, get them involved in cleaning up. Teach them to clean up after themselves, and it will help both them and you in the future!
No matter how hard you try, your post-kids house won’t ever be as tidy as your pre-kids house. There may be moments throughout the day when you might look at your home and shake your head at the mess. But remember to try and embrace it, or even enjoy it because all it means is…your kid is having the time of their lives!
