Any brave person will buckle at the knees when a cockroach creeps up the wall or over your shoes. They’re a common disruption for the homeowner and nearly impossible to get rid of. They have different appetites and prefer different homes but getting rid of them is all the same. Here are some tips on how to let these little crawlers take over your home.

It is tempting to take out the bug spray on every little critter in the room, but if you see one, know plenty more out there. The United States has 3 common roaches to look out for, the Brown-Banded, the American, the German, and the Oriental Roach. While these species vary in size and shell textures, they all leave you with the same unpleasant feeling about your home.

To completely eradicate them, one must go for the eggs. One cockroach produces around 50 eggs at a time, so spraying one won’t really matter. For the full effect, mix boric acid and cooked potatoes. Make them into small balls, and the roaches will take them back to their nest, which will poison the colony. Just make sure these boric balls are out of the reach of children and pets.

If you know that the roaches in your house are primarily under the fridge, place a cockroach trap to break their migration habit. Finding the source of their entry and where their nests can control an infestation. However, if you still have a bad critter problem, it’s probably time to call your local pest control worker. They will provide you with more environmentally sustainable alternatives and a proper solution that is long-term and effective. Cockroaches may be tiny, but they can cause huge havoc within a home, so be sure to be proactive in your approach and deal with the infestation problem immediately!
