Little by Little
Before you say that you don’t have time to have your apartment clean and keep it well-maintained every day, just think how much time you are scrolling through social media aimlessly. Those minutes can be spent listening to your favorite tracks or podcasts picking up clutter off the floor and washing those few mugs from yesterday. What sounds more accomplishable? Washing dishes for 45 minutes after a long day at work, then creating more mess as you make yourself dinner? Or to build the habit of when you dirty one dish, you wash two? While you are waiting for the kettle to boil for your 5 th cup of coffee, pack away the dry dishes, refold your kitchen towels, give that counter the wipe-down it deserves.
Simple Storage Solutions
If your clothes constantly find refuge on the bedroom floor, perhaps you don’t have enough storage? Perhaps a few containers under the bed can help out? Separate summer and winter so your cupboard won’t overflow with clothes and that you can finally put your clean laundry where it belongs.
Trash Talk
A major contributing factor to litter in the world is the lack of trashcans available – have a small trashcan in your bedroom, and one in your bathroom. It encourages you to use them and not just have a pile of junk lying around.
From Top to Bottom
Nothing is as discouraging as sweeping the floor than making your bed and feathers and crumbs from your midnight snack go flying everywhere. Don’t just clean, clean smart. Get some tunes playing, dust and wipe down the surfaces, change the sheets if necessary, and assemble all the things that belong together (like your books and pens which belong together), then sweep! Work-Home Balance If you work from home and you walk around the apartment to just break that eye-contact with the screen, don’t look at your phone! Go wipe down that counter in your bathroom or water those plants, or air out that carpet in the living room. Consider it a break and a time for reflection. Especially when you are mentally fatigued, cleaning a space is incredibly good for your health and well-being.
