A little thrift shop in Belgium has caused quite a stir on the Internet since the emergence of an old photo album filled with photos of a woman posed next to the biggest names in Hollywood. After sharing some of the pictures, the online community immediately began digging around to find out exactly who this woman was.
After some good old detective work, the woman was identified as Maria Snoeys-Lagler, a former member of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. The Association is a non-profit organization of journalists and photographers who report on the entertainment industry.
The leading man of Die Hard, Die Hard 2: Die Harder, and Die Hard 3: Die Hardest (as well as a bunch of other movies) is the first picture on our long list, and he’s giving the camera an unforgettable smolder with his arm around Maria Snoeys-Lagler.
Maria, on the other hand, is all business.
The captain of the starship Enterprise is ready to stun in a big jacket and a colorful tie. Maria has a smile on – maybe she's a Star Trek fan?
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association always puts on the annual Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles every January, which may explain why Maria is able to get so many pics.
As you're about to see, Maria has met almost every one of the big celebrities that have been around for even a little while. Here she has Laurence Fishbourne's hand on her shoulder.
Maria seems pleased enough, but Lawrence has his picture-face on. These people are all probably pretty used to having their picture taken – you'll see plenty of these faces.
Maybe there's a secret club of celebrities lucky enough to have their picture taken with Maria? Perhaps that's why there are so many! We may never know – but Harrison Ford is part of the club, and he's giving his classic lopsided grin.
Maria's long string of pearls and her pearly smile go perfectly together.
The eccentric actor and Maria both seem a bit surprised this picture is even happening – though if you know anything about Nicolas Cage, that's probably par for the course. His whole life is surprising.
Did you know he used to own a pair of king cobras, but he gave them away because they kept trying to kill him?
Sam Neill and Robert Downey Jr
We get a little bit of a clue about when these pictures were taken – it can't possibly be recently since that RDJ looks like he's looking forward to graduating college.
He's giving the camera his best teen heartthrob look, while Sam Neill – star of such movies as Jurassic Park, Event Horizon, and more – is smiling along with Maria.
One of Hollywood's most prominent strong, silent types, Kevin Costner, was once one of the biggest stars in Hollywood before a few ill-timed projects sparked his downfall. From westerns to thrillers and everything in between, he was a name to make a movie around.
Maria seems pleased enough to get a pic with this star, and why wouldn't she be?!
He might not be in his Magnum P.I. days, but this picture of Tom Selleck says there's still plenty of good looks left to hand out to the masses.
Selleck has a gentle, humorous manner on-screen but in this photo, he looks quite solemn.
As an actor, Tom Cruise's name became synonymous with all-American entertainment and he spent the 1980s as one of Hollywood's brightest-shining golden boys.
Yet another handsome, smiling celeb with her arm around Maria, and yet again she has a smile like it's her day job, no big deal!
Maria has the bigger smile of this picture, and also has the more in-place hair – Dreyfuss however, has a very stern-looking face.
But, the golden blonde Maria has mixed well with Dreyfuss's silver coloring.
Best known for playing Charlotte York Goldenblatt in the HBO romantic comedy series Sex and the City, here Kristin Davis is yet another smiling face next to Maria.
Doe-eyed Davis is seen here with Maria, who seems genuinely happy, she must be a fan of the show. Or maybe she's glad to get a pic with a gal pal who doesn't tower over her.
Jon Bon Jovi
One of the biggest names in rock music is giving a big smile next to Maria, who seems mildly pleased he doesn't smell too much like alcohol. Maybe she's hoping to get a picture with a specific celeb but can't remember which one it is. Her kid's favorite, perhaps, but it could be anybody.
Nevertheless, Maria will get a picture.
Cuba Gooding Jr, Lawrence Fishburn
It's another double-celeb pic, and this one even has a new, unnamed face between Maria and Fishburn. It's also the first time a celeb has made the list twice, and Fishburn's face looks pretty much the same.
We wonder how many people will have multiple appearances (not counting Maria). We also wonder what the top score will be.
Now there's a picture that belongs on the mantle. Drew Barrymore's famous dimples and Maria's signature smile are a good combo here, and Maria even looks a little bit more excited than she usually is – she seems to enjoy getting her picture with the gals more than the guys.
She probably appreciates the girl power!
Looking sharp, with blue-eyes and the outward demeanor of an everyday Joe, Ed Harris possesses a quiet, charismatic intensity able to electrify the screen.
Ed may have his picture-face on, but he certainly knows how to crowd in for a photo. He's leaning toward Maria, with his eyes gazing at the camera lens, and his stately wrinkles make him seem all business.
From a teenage time traveler to a sci-fi Superman, Keanu Reeves has depicted just about every role possible in his sometimes fluctuating career. The star is pictured here with Maria and two unknowns.
Maria has an even bigger smile than usual, and who can blame her? She's getting her picture taken with Keanu Reeves!
Tim Roth has been in lots of Quentin Tarantino's movies, as well as Planet of the Apes, The Incredible Hulk, and lots more. But, here, he's young and starring in a picture with Maria, whose smile seems to grow larger and brighter with each pic.
Tim Roth looks just as pleased, giving us a tight-lipped grin.
Here's an exciting twist. While Ms. Locklear looks thrilled to be in a photo and has both hands resting on Maria. Her smile is significant, and their heads are close together.
Maria, on the other hand, looks like she's watching the cameraman with some suspicion. Perhaps it's been a long day for Ms. Snoeys-Lagler.
Maria's back to smiling, and it's for another good reason: the famous Latin hunk Antonio Banderas is cuddled up and giving the camera his best smolder. Does he seem to be wearing a...vest? Possibly?
Maria is wearing one of her inconspicuous blouses, but don't worry, her pearls are front and center, though this time her smile is brighter.
Two hunks in a row! Maria has a good streak going, and she's pretty happy about it. Johnny Depp, who looks like he's fresh off the set of Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands, is doing his best to feign a smile.
This is years before he made waves as Captain Jack Sparrow, and Depp still has plenty of youthful exuberance. Maria, on the other hand, hasn't aged a day.
We have another double appearance is Kevin Costner, who is giving Maria such a pleasing look we wonder if he's the one who asked her for the pic. She seems completely unaware of his gaze.
They also appear to be in a basement. Maria, if you need help, don't wear pearls in your next picture.
She has pearled everybody, she's okay. And she's smiling again, posed here with Hugh Grant, best known for Love Actually, Four Weddings and a Funeral, and Notting Hill.
He's pleased as punch to be in one of Maria's pictures, and she seems relieved to have escaped Kevin Costner's basement.
Kevin Bacon and Tom Hanks
It's a double dose of handsome in this picture, with Maria acting as the center of an A-list sandwich. Tom Hanks has a rare goatee, and Kevin Bacon has a broad smile on his face, just like Maria.
They're posed in front of a picture of scuba divers for some reason.
Rutger Hauer is famous for appearing in Blade Runner, Batman Begins, and plenty of other movies, as well as having a picture with Maria.
The lantern-jawed Dane looks like he's having a convo with someone off-screen, but Maria is all smiles – despite Hauer being so much taller she's getting close to the bottom of the frame.
Cast The Bold & The Beautiful
The biggest group picture we've seen yet is a whole seven people, the principal cast (at the time) of The Bold and the Beautiful, a soap opera that continues to this day.
We can see Ronn Moss on Maria's left, and the silver fox on our far right appears to be John McCook. Other names may be Carrie Mitchum, Nancy Sloan, Susan Flannery, and Katherine Kelly Lang.
Captain Kirk looks like he needs to wear more than just sunglasses when he's out trawling the cosmos. He's a healthy tan, and he makes Maria look positively pale.
Yet her smile is still plenty bright, and Shatner even has a coy grin on his face – watch out Maria, Kirk is on the prowl.
Young Elijah Wood
The youngest member of the photo album so far is still a long ways away from carrying the ring to the fires of Mount Doom. He looks like he's getting ready for his last day of middle school, but at least he and Maria are about the same height.
Meg Ryan and Andy Garcia
This duo look pretty pleased to be part of Maria's scrapbook. Ryan is darling in a shimmering cream outfit, while Mr. Garcia looks all business with a shirt and jacket.
Maria has a new necklace, but once again her smile is front-and-center and draws the eye even among these celebrities.
Most of the time Maria's maturity – her wisdom, one might say – is further along than the famous folks she gets pictures with. Not this time, as far as we can tell. Kirk Douglas was once a cheerleader, but now he is happy to give a little grin to the camera. T
his might be one of the Hollywood names Maria grew up watching.
Here's an actor is known for his heartthrob good looks as a teen while playing a character on the famous Beverly Hills, 90210, but he also appeared in Riverdale, and had plenty of guest roles in shows and appeared in a number of movies.
We get another look at the time frame of Maria's pictures here – Perry looks precocious.
The son of Martin Sheen and a famous actor in his own right, Emilio Estevez here has a sly grin that makes us think something goofy happened right before this picture was taken.
Maria might not have noticed, but she still seems happy to have her picture with the star of The Mighty Ducks.
Kyle Maclachlan, Clarence Williams III, and Samuel L Jackson
It's a triple threat this time. Williams is best known for his character ""Linc Hayes"" on the cop show The Mod Squad. Maclachlan was a main character on the trippy T.V. show Twin Peaks, the lead on the 1984 movie Dune, and a number of others.
You likely know Jackson, since he's been a massive movie star for more than thirty years.
Before Kate even won the hearts of the world playing Rose in The Titanic, she had her picture with Maria. At least, we think this is before. There still aren't any dates on these things.
Is this picture it's been a long day for Maria but she still manages a little grin. Winslett, on the other hand, is giving the camera a good view of every tooth.
The towering Irishman Neeson and the miniature Maria both seem pretty happy with this picture. Neeson hadn't yet reached big fame thanks to the Taken series, but it looks like he might be trying out for a little movie called Harry Potter with those glasses.
Sorry, Liam, you're a little bit too old.
Not sure who the smiling, curly-haired beauty is in this photo? It's Maria, silly. But the other woman is Faye Dunaway, who has won plenty of awards for her stellar acting in films such as Network, Bonnie and Clyde, Chinatown, and Mommie Dearest.
Both gals look plenty pleased to be taking a pic.
Cast Melrose Place
We're not even going to try and name who all these people are, other than yes, they are in fact the cast of Melrose Place, a soap opera which ran from 1992 to 1999.
There's a lot going on in this picture: the guy Maria is next to looks like he's thinking about his grocery list, a few gals at the bottom of the frame are giving big grins, and the people on the edges are carrying on conversations.
The director of some of the most famous movies of all time – E.T., Indiana Jones, Jaws, and many more is pictured with Maria against either a black material or they're in the void of space.
Maria has a double strand of pearls, either thanks to the lighting or thanks to her natural color, she seems to be a little bit of a redhead.
Matthau was in plenty of films, and though he passed away twenty years ago, he still appeared in The Odd Couple, The Taking of Pelham One Two Three, Charley Varrick, and The Fortune Cookie.
He's an old soul, and he looks pleased to have a chance to take a pic with Maria. We can't see any teeth in his mouth, but he's still giving a big grin.
Tommy Lee Jones
Tommy Lee looks like he's hewn out of rock next to Maria, who is lovably bulbous in a picture with the Men in Black, The Fugitive, No Country for Old Men, and The Homesman star.
We wonder if this is from the Men in Black era, since Jones is proper in a black suit and tie.
Gerard Depardieu and Claude Berri
Gerard (left) is known for playing the title character in Cyrano de Bergerac, Porthos in The Man in the Iron Mask, Columbus in 1492: Conquest of Paradise, and lots more.
Claude is best known as a writer and producer, including for films such as Jean de Florette, The Two of Us, Hunting and Gathering, and Germinal.
Sir Anthony Hopkins and Richard Attenborough
A couple of big names gird Maria in this picture. Throw a dart at a pile of movies, and you will probably end up hitting one that has Sir Hopkins, such as Silence of the Lambs, Thor, The World's Fastest Indian, and Hitchcock.
Richard Attenborough was in Jurassic Park and lots of other films and is David Attenborough's older brother.
The famous female (and Julia Roberts) are flanking a man of unknown name. Maria and Julia have big smiles, but the guy in the middle can barely see past his glasses.
Julia barely looks like she's hit thirty, which is another clue to the time frame of all these pictures.
Johnny Depp and Juliette Lewis
We have another second appearance! Johnny Depp's cheekbones make another show, this time with Maria between them and Juliette Lewis, an actress from films such as Natural Born Killers, August: Osage County, Cape Fear, and From Dusk Till Dawn.
Maria's still pleased, and only Johnny isn't giving a big smile.
Maria already has a picture of Kirk, so why not get the son in one as well? The lighting on this picture is a bit dark, but there are dark shadows behind Kirk's head, so we know it was lit.
Both of these golden oldies are giving the camera their best, though Michael's mouth is flatter than most.
Maria's giving us one of the biggest smiles we've yet seen, but so is her friend Andrew, who is one of the main cast of Melrose Place, and has also been in a number of movies such as The Rainmaker and Gracie.
Keep smiling, you too – there's no reason not to.
It's another picture first because this one is outside – we can see plenty of green leaves and even little slivers of sky peeking through. Maria is smiling with Denzel Washington, and though Maria has a purple dress and pearls (have we seen the same outfit twice?
I don't think so!) Denzel is casual in a tee and light jeans.
From Saw to Robin Hood: Men in Tights and plenty of movies between the two, Cary Elwes has done it all, from romantic lead to evil murderer.
He's starring in a picture with Maria (and it's a little bit confusing since Maria is usually on the left side), and we aren't sure if we should be thrilled or scared, due to his look.
Dillon's career has spanned over three decades, including There's Something About Mary, Crash, The House That Jack Built, and Drugstore Cowboy.
This picture gives us his thick eyebrows and a slightly-scared look that we aren't sure what to make of. Maybe Maria is taking all of these pictures in her basement?
Yes, Maria has taken a picture with famous actor Danny Glover, but more important, it's the exact same outfit as her picture with Matt Dillon! We've never seen this before – they even seem to be in front of the same background.
Odds are the pics were taken at the same event, but what if it's not? What are the odds of that?
Nicole Kidman and Michael Keaton
A pair of Hollywood big shots are smiling at the...Michael Keaton, who on earth taught you to smile? It looks like you just swallowed an entire lemon.
These two stars were together in the 1993 movie My Life, another clue to the time of this pic. The man on the far left of the picture is unknown.
The Cast of Saved By The Bell
Maria looks splendid in a purple dress and lots of pearls, and famous faces like Mario Lopez, Dustin Diamond, Lark Voorhies, Dennis Haskins, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Tiffani Thiessen, and Elizabeth Berkley are to her left, right, and above.
Everyone's full of smiles, even though Screech looks like he's scheming something.
Cast of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Women
From children to adults, there are plenty of actors and actresses who appeared on Dr. Quinn (including, in his only scripted appearance, Fred Rogers), and they're all gathered for a picture with Maria.
This group is so large that they have to sit down to get everybody in.
Meg Ryan is the one who looks star-struck here, which we understand – everybody wants their picture with Maria. Yet Ryan's blue eyes still pop against the blonde hair and tan background.
Her second appearance on this list, Meg seems a little bit more upright than in her first image, but Maria is still smiling just the same.
You've seen Angela as Ramonda in Black Panther, but she's also been in Strange Days, Contact, and Olympus Has Fallen.
These two ladies look perfect together, and Maria seems pleased to have a picture with someone who is only a little bit taller than her. Both gals are all smiles.
Jean Claude Van Damme
The Muscles from Brussels is pleased as punch to have a picture with his fellow Belgian – at least that's where we think the name Snoeys-Lagler originates from.
Maria must have gotten a little bit of trim because her hair seems shorter in this picture. Her face makes us think Mr. Van Damme hasn't showered in a while.
Michelle Pfeiffer and Dennis Haysbert
Michelle Pfeiffer has a tight-lipped smile that is threatening to spill over if her bulging cheeks say anything about it. Maria has a big smile as always, but Dennis....
Dennis is appreciating Maria a little bit too much. Dennis, please look at the camera. Dennis, look at the camera. Dennis.
The Fresh Prince of Bel Air looks mighty fresh in this picture, before the ravages of Scientology brought him down to earth. He's got his hand on Maria, and Maria's hand is on his waist, and the two look like the perfect pair.
What kind of material is Will's shirt made out of? We may never know.
Most well known from her five-year stint on Battlestar Galactica as President Laura Roslin, McDonnell has also been in Donnie Darko, Margin Call, Dances with Wolves, and plenty of other shows and movies.
They must do something to make her appear taller, because here she and Maria are just about the same height.
Gary Oldman, Francis Coppola and Winona Ryder
Plenty of famous names crowd this picture, with Maria stuck in the middle.
We have renowned actor Gay Oldman, actress Winona Ryder, and legendary director Francis Ford Coppola, as well as an unnamed female next to Maria (we think) who has exciting fashion choices and is as of now the smallest person pictured next to Maria.
What happened, Maria? Are you remembering the horrors of war? Thinking about a long-lost childhood pet? Whatever the reason, Maria's shell-shocked face is a strange contrast to Alfre Woodard, who has been in plenty of movies, from Star Trek to 12 Years a Slave.
Hey, they're both wearing pearls. Way to coordinate, girls.
What was Jonathan Pryce in? What wasn't he in? From Glengarry Glen Ross to Tomorrow Never Dies to The Two Popes, this man is a tour de force all his own.
He's got a classy jacket and a little grin, which means once again Maria has the best smile in the picture. This is a classic example of a picture-face.
Andy Garcia looks nothing like this anymore, which is why we think all of these pictures are getting close to somewhere around three decades old. Garcia is a relatively quiet guy who, despite starring in numerous roles even up to now, maintains his silence on social medias and in the news.
But we at least have a picture of him with Maria.
The name Frances Fisher might now be very memorable to you, but this actress has been in tons of big films, including Titanic, Unforgiven, True Crime, and The Lincoln Lawyer. We have another rare outdoor picture...or maybe it's in front of a window.
Either way, it's good to see Maria branch out a little bit.
She started acting at the tender age of eight with her father, but how did Helen Hunt ever know she would one day be in a picture with Maria Snoeys-Lagler?
Life takes us down strange roads sometimes. She was also in As Good as It Gets, Twister, Cast Away, and lots of other movies.
John Corbett has received Primetime Emmy Award and Golden Globe nominations while acting in the T.V. show Northern Exposure, but he's been in plenty of movies, too.
He and Maria are pictured here with a close angle, in front of what looks like the same plant from Maria's picture with Frances Fisher.
Wasn't Jack...no, guess not. He's the kind of guy you think you've seen before, and no wonder – Jack Nicholson has been in movies for decades. We have a half-and-half background here, with a plant behind Maria and a curtain behind Jack.
Also, Jack is making a weird face at us, but no surprise there.
Luke Perry is back, and this time he's brought some friends. The entire principal cast of Beverly Hills, 90210 surrounds Maria in front of a vague background. We've got plenty of smiles to critique, and the weirdest-shaped head in the world thanks to the blond in the bottom left. S
he's undoubtedly lovely, but hopefully, this pic got a take two.
Aha! Another pair of pictures from the same night! Robert Duvall moved in as soon as the cast of 90210 walked off, and got the very next picture with Maria.
The pearls are the same, as is the dress and the background color, which means it was the same night. Maria doesn't seem as excited about Bobby, though.
And who walks into frame next? Christopher Walken, who had to wait at least a day for his chance to take a pic with Maria – she's got a different outfit in this one.
Both of the people in this picture look a little tired, though at least Maria is trying to smile. Come on, Chris. At least try.
The man so lovely he was photographed twice! Andy Garcia is back for another pic. They're both smiling big, and they even have a rare outdoor picture.
Maria and Andy are buddying up like they just got done telling jokes, and we're sure they got right back to chatting after the picture.
Jack Lemmon and Sophia Loren
Picture proof this collection is from before June 27th, 2001 – that's the sad date Jack Lemmon passed away. The famous actor flanks Maria on one side, while legendary Italian beauty Sophia Loren is on Maria's other side.
We thought Maria wasn't wearing pearls for a moment there, but they're hiding under her lapels. Close call.
It's the picture that told us what little we know of Maria Snoeys-Lagler. See the nametag? That's the only reason we know the identity of this legendary lady, here pictured next to Jane Seymour, whose lopsided grin landed her in plenty of movies and television shows, and here is stunning with a felt cowboy hat.
Nobody appeared more than twice, but Maria has still collected a legendary group of pictures. We will always wonder what convinced her – or her family – to toss them out. But, thankfully, they've been found once more, and we get to browse through them to discover all the fun Maria must have had.
