The New Mothers Weren’t Getting Along So Well
Shortly after Jack was born, Gisele made a comment about her family situation during an interview, claiming that she views Jack as one of her children. The media quickly blew up the story, and people soon began to criticize her for not respecting certain boundaries.
This led to further speculation that there were tensions and problems between the new mother and stepmother of Brady’s child and that this unique dynamic had the potential to end up in a broken and separated family. These concerns grew even bigger when Bündchen seemed to confirm reports that she and Bridget had never even met. What also potentially stoked the flames was Gisele’s statement that Jack is “100 percent” her son. Yikes!
Gisele Was Caught Off-Guard
The supermodel was devastated when Tom broke the news to her about his ex-girlfriend’s pregnancy and, of course, her decision to keep Brady's child. Gisele didn’t know whether she should stay or run away. In her memoir, 'Lessons: My Path to a Meaningful Life,' Bündchen writes: "The very next day, the news was everywhere, and I felt my world had been turned upside down. Needless to say, that wasn't an easy time, but it was a time that brought about so much growth".
This was made even harder by the total lack of privacy and constant media attention the couple got following the news, making her decision not a private but a public one for the entire world to see. Whatever she would end up deciding, Gisele knew that she was facing a very challenging time ahead of her.
Bridget Suffered From Intense Media Scrutiny
The newly pregnant actress was having a very tough time dealing with the situation. Bridget knew that regardless of Tom's decision to be involved or not, she was going to be a single mother. What made the entire ordeal much more difficult was the fact that she was being constantly followed and talked about in the press.
Despite her anxiety about raising a son without a partner, she knew that Tom wasn’t the right man for her and that he had already moved on. So, she decided against pressuring him to get back together with her for the sake of the child. Eventually, John Edward Thomas Moynahan, also known as “Jack,” was born in August of 2007. Moynahan told People in 2011 that Brady was not present for the birth but visited the hospital a day later, "He certainly wasn't holding my hand while I pushed," she shared.
Somehow, They Managed to Get Along
Despite the pressures of the complicated family dynamic, along with insane pressure from the media, whatever problems Brady's former and current love interests were facing seem to have become water under the bridge. The two mothers were reportedly getting along very well and were on the same team.
Perhaps it was Brady's vast experience with teams and just being an all-around good sport, or perhaps it was Jack's sweetness that made everyone get along, but somehow, things worked out for the best. Bündchen told People magazine, "I'm so grateful for [Bridget]; I know this was hard, but I couldn't imagine my life without [Jack]. I call him my bonus child." It sounds like this experience helped everyone involved grow into kind, loving, and mature adults!
Bridget’s Opinion on Gisele and Tom
Bridget tried to keep the situation as private as possible and avoided making any public statements about her relationship with Tom and Gisele. Eventually, she decided it was time to stop the rumors that she and her son's stepmother were bitter foes who hated each other. Bridget eventually stated publicly that she had a great relationship with Tom and Gisele and had been communicating with them on a daily basis.
We’re proud of Bridget for making this mature and tough journey that, under different circumstances, would break a lot of families. Moynahan has said that Jack was in very good and capable hands and that her son had two loving parents and an extended family, whether they were cousins, stepmothers, or boyfriends. Her son was surrounded by love. It looks like the actress has made a long way from the crazy days of 'Coyote Ugly' and 'Sex in the City'!
