The wedding event was a 10-day festival for which 600 guests were flown in from more than 20 different countries. The festivities totaled to over $20 million, and over 100 000 pounds of flowers. India’s Prime Minister was even in attendance for the celebration, along with the former president of the United States, Bill Clinton.

"Kimye"

In May of 2014, Kim Kardashian tied the knot with second husband, rapper Kanye West. The stars got married in a luxurious affair in Florence, Italy. While tabloids first reported that the wedding cost less than $3 million, it was later revealed that it actually cost over $10 million.

The event began at the palace of Versailles in France, where guests enjoyed a lavish feast. Everyone was then flown out to Florence for the ceremony and the reception. As Kim glided down the aisle in her Vera Wang gown, Andrea Bocelli sang a beautiful song. As the two recited their vows, they stood against an incredible floral background, worth over $100,000.

Michael Jordan’s Heavenly Wedding

Basketball legend Michael Jordan tied the knot with beautiful Cuban-American model Yvette Prieto in 2013. After the ceremony, guests gathered in an enormous tent in Juniper, Florida, that was described as being “heavenly.” Thousands of candles illuminated the party and left the air pleasantly scented as everyone enjoyed a 7-layer rum cake. The couple opted for guests to donate to charity rather than buy them gifts, and they also donated all of their flowers to the Jupiter Medical Center.

The 2011 British Royal Wedding

In 2011, almost every single magazine on the planet was talking about Prince William’s marriage to Kate Middleton – a lavish affair that cost nearly $35 million. Nearly 2,000 guests gathered at Buckingham Palace to attend the wedding, which was broken down into two days of activities.

On the first day, about 1,900 people filled the abbey to view the actual ceremony. The guest list was full of other celebrities, including Bono and Cindy Crawford, whose husband was rumored to have played the role of best man.

Heiress Petra Ecclestone’s Marriage

Petra Ecclestone, daughter of Formula One legend Bernie Ecclestone, got married to businessman James Stunt in an over-the-top celebration in 2011. The ceremony, which included A-list guests like Paris Hilton, took place in the Odescalschi Castle in Rome. Ecclestone paid The Black Eyed Peas $1.5 million to perform at the reception.

Justin Timberlake’s engagement to Jessica Biel was the talk of the town in 2012. Would you expect anything less from the princess of the fashion world? The entire event cost the families over $7 million in 2005.

Delphine made her way down the aisle in a beautiful custom-made Dior gown by John Galliano. The reception took place at a vineyard in Bordeaux, which had been decorated with an impressive 5,000 roses. A Moscow choir provided dreamlike music during the festivities. Guests in attendance include Karl Lagerfeld and members of the Rothschild clan.

Brunei’s Prince Al-Muhtadee Billah

Brunei’s Crown Prince, Al-Muhtadee Billah, gave his parents quite the surprise when he decided to marry an ordinary citizen, but that wasn’t the only thing that was a bit out of the ordinary for the prince. That citizen just happened to be 17-year-old Sarah Salleh, who went from living an average life, to getting married in what has been called one of the most expensive wedding ceremonies to date – coming in at an estimated $6 million.

2,000 guests showed up to the sultan’s palace for the lavish affair, including the Duke of Gloucester and Prince Richard. A fleet of 100 limos chauffeured the political leaders around the area, while the couple sat atop their golden thrones in the palace. The Prince and Princess wore matching blue outfits that were embellished with different types of jewels. At the end of the night, attendees were treated to a 15-minute-long fireworks display.

Prince Abdul Malik’s Wedding

Sultan of Brunei’s son, Prince Abdul Malik, was married to Dayangku Raabi’atul 'Adawiyyah Pengiran Haji Bolkiah, a 22-year old data analyst, in the spring of 2015. The wedding was literally decked out with gold everything and took place inside of the Sultan’s huge palace. World leaders and other royal families from all over the globe arrived for the celebration.

The 31-year old prince and his bride-to-be wore matching gold clothes and was covered in jewels. She wore a lovely tiara and matching necklace with rings made from sparkling emeralds. Her shoes had crystals on them. She also opted to carry a bouquet made with jewels, instead of the usual flowers.

Another Trump Production

It shouldn’t really come as a surprise to anyone that Ivanka Trump’s wedding was an over-the-top, ridiculously expensive event. After all, just look at who her father is. Ivanka married media mogul Jared Kushner in an elaborate $1 million ceremony. The couple enlisted the services of Preston Baily, a prominent wedding planner that charges over $100,000.

The 2009 nuptials took place at her families National Golf Club in the state of New Jersey. Ivanka opted for a classic and elegant, custom Vera Wang gown that cost her nearly $50,000, and plenty of bling that was worth over $200,000. Jared and Ivanka recently celebrated their 9th wedding anniversary and couldn’t be happier.

Fortunately for Katie, she’s free from her marriage to Tom Cruise. But just because things went south for the former couple, doesn’t mean that they didn’t have some good days. One of those days just happens to be that of their wedding – an extravagant affair that took place in a beautiful 15th-century castle near Rome. It cost about $2 million.

The two were set on having their wedding outside of Rome, which meant that they needed to fly all of their guests in for the occasion, which they did for a price of over $900,000. Celebrity friends of the couple in attendance include Jennifer Lopez and Will Smith. Guests were treated to fine dining and nearly $200,000 of wine.

Prince Albert's Big Day

This is another one of those numbers that will make your head spin. After all, an average human looks at a couple of a million dollars like a lot of money – so what about $65 million? That’s how much Prince Albert II of Monaco spent on his wedding with swimmer Charlene Wittstock.

The marriage was held in 2011, in Monte Carlo, Monaco, and spanned the course of two days in the beginning of July. They held two separate ceremonies so that they could have both a civil and a religious ceremony, the first of which took place in the Prince’s palace. Wittstock wore a sleek and sophisticated Giorgio Armani gown for the second part of the event and they rented out a Lexus to transport them to and from the different venues. This definitely holds a rightful spot on the list of the most expensive weddings of all time.

The Billion Dollar Wedding

Said Gutseriev, son of Russian oil tycoon, Mikhail Gutseriev, got married in Moscow in 2016. The bride was 20-year old dental student Khadija Uzhakhovs, who wore a dress that was covered in so many jewels that it weighed nearly 30 pounds. The celebration cost Mikhail an incredible $1 billion, almost ¼ of his total net worth.

Several stars showed up to perform at the show, including Sting, Enrique Iglesias and Jennifer Lopez, who was paid a cool million for the evening. Guests were shuttled to and from the ceremony in Rolls Royce’s and dined on a cake that was taller than everyone in the room. An incredible fireworks display provided the perfect end to the fairytale when it was time for everyone to leave.

There was no way this material girl was going to have some mediocre ceremony when she wed film director Guy Ritchie in 2000. The couple held an intimate, but incredibly lavish, ceremony at Skibo Castle in Scotland. They booked each and every room of the entire place for their guests, which included Sting and Gweneth Paltrow.

The star-studded wedding cost the two an estimated $1.5 million, which in today’s terms equals out to about $2.5 million. Madonna wore a beautiful gown by Stella McCartney, while Ritchie decided to don a kilt, a nod to his own Scottish heritage. The castle was rife with security guards, which kept the reporters at bay until they had officially tied the knot.

Jen and Brad's Iconic Wedding

Anyone who was familiar with pop culture in the ’90s is aware of the marriage between Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt, Hollywood’s original “it” couple. The young stars tied the knot in a $1 million wedding ceremony in July of 2000. That may not seem like a huge amount of money compared to some others on the list, but it’s still quite a bit, especially considering it went down nearly two decades ago.

The event was wholly star-studded and some guests in attendance include Salma Hayek, Cameron Diaz and the cast of friends, except Matt Leblanc who was working at the time. Four bands were hired to perform throughout the festivities, along with Melissa Etheridge and a church choir. Unfortunately, the marriage ultimately went downhill.

Eleven years after Minnelli attended best friend Elizabeth Taylor’s marriage to Larry Fortensky, Taylor would find herself returning the favor as a guest at Liza’s wedding to producer and comedian David Gest. Like Taylor, this was far from Minnelli’s first rodeo, as this marriage would be her 4th. The couple dropped between 3 and 4 million dollars on their ceremony, which took place inside of the Marble Collegiate Church in NYC.

The wedding was such a huge deal that some of the biggest names in show business were in attendance, like Mia Farrow and Anthony Hopkins. The millions of dollars spent on the event went towards things like a $40,000 cake and over $700,000 of flowers. Michael Jackson actually acted as Fortensky’s best man, while Elizabeth Taylor was the maid of honor. Minnelli walked down the aisle in a custom-made Bob Mackey wedding dress strewn with crystals and pearls as Natalie Cole sang her father’s hit song, “Unforgettable.”

Alex Carl and Peter Campbell

Alex Carl, whose father is a wealthy lawyer in the DC area, married her boyfriend, Peter Campbell, in 2015. The couple first met when Campbell was basically Carl’s landlord in South Africa when she was studying abroad in 2006. The two had an extravagant wedding that spanned the course of several days and was held at Carl’s estate in the Hamptons.

The Carl’s hired esteemed wedding planner Mindy Weiss, along with a team of other professionals, to produce the celebration. The bride’s father also hired multiple photographers and videographers, which turned into a legal battle after the family says that they never received any of those photos or videos. But those weren’t the only legal issues that came from the affair. Mindy Weiss is suing Alex’s father and claims that he never paid her for her services.

Former Crown Prince of Spain, Felipe, got married to former journalist Letizia Ortiz in the Almudena Cathedral in Madrid. The lavish ceremony cost nearly $30 million and was viewed live by over 20 million people across the world in 2004. The bride wore a beautiful, custom-made gown with a trail of over 4 feet, made by the 87-year old couturier, Manuel Pertegaz.

The extravagant affair was swarming with security that included 200 snipers on rooftops all over the area, along with 18,000 police officers. The guest list was both royal and star-studded and was comprised of the Danish Queen, Margrethe II, the Norwegian Crown Prince and Princess and even Nelson Mandela.

Double Trouble

Sons of Sahara chief Subrata Roy, Seemanto Roy and Sushanto Roy, got married in a lavish double wedding ceremony that lasted for 4 days. Seemanto tied the knot with actress Chandni Singh Toor, while Sushanto wed Richa Ahuja, the daughter of a wealthy businessman.

Subrata Roy, who has an estimated net worth of over $5 billion, spared no expenses for the over-the-top celebration. Apparently, he dropped nearly $65 million on each son – so he came close to spending $130 million for the entire event. Tens of thousands of guests were in attendance to eat delicious multinational cuisine and listen to the British Symphony Orchestra play on stage.

Making Taiwanese History

Jay Chou is a popular actor in Taiwan, and he’s also on the rise in the United States. Chou has appeared in some blockbuster hits, like Now You See Me 2. His bride, Hanna Quinlivan, is a big Taiwanese star, too, so it should come as no surprise that they’ve made the list.

The couple threw an over-the-top ceremony at the Selby Abbey in North Yorkshire. The bride wore an elegant, white lace gown by Mikael Derderian, and the groom wore a black Alexander McQueen suit with gold details. Overall, the young stars reportedly dropped around $23 million in New Taiwan money, which equals close to $1 million US dollars. The ceremony made history as the most lavish in the history of the country.

Prince Pavlos of Greece

As if Marie-Chantal Miller’s life wasn’t already a fairytale, things got even better for her when she wed the Crown Prince of Greece. And if marrying a prince wasn’t enough, throw in a $200 million dowry from her billionaire father. The wedding was an over-the-top production (well, duh,) that cost about $7 million.

The couple held the nuptials at St. Sophia’s Cathedral in London and invited almost 1,500 people. Guests enjoyed over 300 wedding cakes, one of which was 8-tiers. The bride-to-be wore a gorgeous, flowing white Valentino dress that trailed behind her for 15-feet and cost over $230,000. The dress, which was a combination of lace, silk and pearls, reportedly took 25 people 4 months to make.

Princess Victoria and Daniel Westling

Victoria, the Crown Princess of Sweden, married former personal trainer, Daniel Westling, in a beautiful wedding ceremony that took place in Stockholm Cathedral in 2010. That’s right, Princess Victoria had the hots for her fitness instructor and decided to put a ring on it, much to the dismay of her father, the King of Sweden. Good for her for following her heart, anyways!

An impressive 250,000 guests gathered in the Cathedral to witness the ceremony, which included the royal families from all over the world. The Queen of the Netherlands attended, along with the Prince and Princess of Jordan and The Queen of Denmark. Princess Victoria wore an exquisite off-the-shoulder Pär Engsheden dress and a crown of cameos – the same one that her mother, the Queen, wore on her wedding day.

Eddie Murphy Marries Nicole Mitchell

Hollywood funnyman Eddie Murphy married former model Nicole Mitchell back in 1993, at the Plaza Hotel in New York City. About 500 guests showed up for the event, including hotel owner Donald Trump and music executive Russell Simmons. The actor reportedly dropped nearly $1.5 million, which was pretty expensive for the early ’90s!

The bride wore a gorgeous white lace gown that was strewn with crystals and pearls and had a train that trailed behind her by 12-feet. She accessorized with a matching, classic veil. The dress alone cost a small fortune at $40,000. Guests enjoyed a lavish dinner and champagne in the Palm Court, followed by $25,000 worth of cake. All of the flowers, which filled the ballroom during the ceremony, were donated to a local hospital after the celebration.

Kim Kardashian married her first husband, Kris Humphries, back in 2011, just shy of 6-months after they’d started to date. The elaborate affair cost about $10 million, a ridiculous amount of money for a marriage that would last less than 3 months. Tons of celebrities showed up to support Kim and the NBA star, including Demi Lovato and Serena Williams.

Starting with the hematite-covered invitations, everything about the wedding was over-the-top. Wolfgang Puck whipped the couple up a custom 7-foot tall cake, which cost nearly $20,000. Kim donned not one but three different custom-made Vera Wang dresses throughout the evening. But less than 80 days later, the marriage would crash and burn…

King Charles III & Princess Diana

Times were a little bit different in 1981 when Prince Charles (now King Charles III)  married Princess Diana – and by times, we mean finances. What was dubbed the wedding of the century cost the royal family a whopping $48 million, which would come out to about $110 million in 2019. The dreamlike affair may have cost a pretty penny, but they kept the guest list fairly small at under 200 people.

The couple were wed inside of St. Paul’s Cathedral in London, making it one of the only weddings within the royal family that wasn’t held at Westminster Abbey. Diana glided down the aisle in a gorgeous gown that was custom-made with 10,000 pearls and a train that was about 25-feet long. If that dress were to be recreated today, it would cost an estimated $41,000.

James Bond's Wedding

Former 007 and Mamma Mia star Pierce Brosnan got married to journalist Keely Shaye Smith in a beautifully intimate ceremony in Ireland in 2001. The wedding was held at the Ashford Castle Hotel, set in a 13th-century castle, which sits next to the biggest lake Ireland – talk about an incredible backdrop for a wedding! Apparently, Brosnan hired the best wedding planners he could find to help them create the ceremony, which Smith called, “a mixture of The Secret Garden and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”

About 120 people were invited to join the couple for the celebration, which were mainly all family members and close friends. The area where the vows took place was decorated with nearly $15,000 of flowers, and everyone enjoyed a 6-tier cake, which was made to be a replica of the same one that JFK and Jackie O had at their wedding. In total, the extravagant affair cost about $1.5 million, money well spent considering the happy couple is still together to this very day!

Victoria Adams, also formerly known as “Posh Spice,” got married to soccer player David Beckham in 1999. While David has recently been quoted as calling his marriage to Victoria, “hard work,” the two are still going strong today. The celebrities spent a (comparably) mild $1.1 million on the celebration, with only $800,000 of it going towards the actual ceremony. Of course, this was before 2000, so you can imagine what it might have cost in 2019!

As for the cake, the couple requested that the toppers be nude figurines of themselves. Not everyone could get away with a bold move like that, but these two certainly can. Yum!

Chelsea Olivia and Glenn Alinskie Finally Wed

Glenn Alinskie and Chelsea Olivia are celebrities from Indonesia. The two dated for nearly 7 years before they decided to take the plunge in 2015. They got married in a lavish, Catholic ceremony at the Church of Santa Maria Patron of the Assumption.

The bride walked down the aisle in a stunning off-the-shoulder gown made with white lace, and a matching veil. They held their reception in the Hotel Mulia Senayan in Central Jakarta, where guests enjoyed a lovely castle shaped cake that towered over the room at an impressive 15-feet tall and was worth an estimated $4.5 million. The theme of the affair was “enchanted garden,” and they definitely nailed the whole fairytale, dream wedding thing!

Elizabeth Hurley and Arun Nayar's Big Day

Actress Elizabeth Hurley wanted to feel like a princess when she wed Tyco Vice President Arun Nayar in 2007, and what Elizabeth Hurley wants, Elizabeth Hurley gets! The couple tied the knot in an extravagant international affair that spanned the course of a week and cost nearly $2.5 million.

The first part of the festivities was the Anglican wedding, which was held at Sudeley Castle in England. After the traditional wedding, they flew out to India for a Hindu ceremony, along with a week full of other activities. Flights between the countries for the couple and their guests ran them around $300,000, along with the $100,000 they spent on hotel rooms.

Christina Aguilera’s Big Day

In 2002, superstar Christina Aguilera met music producer Jordan Bratman in Atlanta while she was there working on an album. The two instantly hit it off. Bratman wound up moving back to Los Angeles with her and three years later – they got married in a beautiful ceremony that cost around $2 million.

Although Christina Aguilera has always been very humble, she of course still wanted to have the fairytale wedding of her dreams, and she did just that. 150 guests were invited to a small ceremony at the Staglin Family Vineyard in Napa Valley, California, where the couple exchanged vows amidst a sea of multi-colored roses. Paul McCartney and Heather Mills

Former Beatle Paul McCartney married Heather Mills at a gorgeous remote castle in Ireland in June of 2002. 300 friends and family members gathered at Castle Leslie in Glaslough to enjoy an Indian-themed celebration that cost about $3 million. McCartney’s former bandmates, Ringo Starr and George Harrison were in attendance and joined Paul on stage for a performance at one point.

Ironically enough, the venue was one of the least expensive parts of the entire production, which seems a bit odd considering it’s a castle. After the ceremony, which took place in the middle of $140,000 worth of flowers, guests were treated to a lakeside vegetarian feast. Guests were also treated to a lavish firework display in the evening.

Elton John’s marriage to his partner, David Furnish, happened in the midst of the UK’s legalization of same-sex marriage in 2014, so the ceremony was understandably over-the-top. The couple reportedly dropped over $2 million on the celebration, which took place in England at the Windsor Estate.

The couple were fairly modest in their choice of tuxedos, spending only $10,000 for both of them. But what they saved from wardrobe, they made up for with edibles, spending upwards of $130,000 on luxuries like champagne and caviar. Celebrity friends including Ed Sheeran and Victoria Beckham attended the celebration, which came 9 years after they had already been in a civil partnership.

Angelababy Ties the Knot

Those in North America may not recognize the name above, but they may know a thing or two about Chinese actress Angel Yeung, one of the most popular actresses in the Eastern world and fondly known as the “Chinese Kim K.” Aside from her major roles in her country, she’s crossed over into international acting with smaller roles in films like Hitman: Agent 47. In 2015, Angelababy married fellow actor Huang Xiaoming, in an over-the-top ceremony that cost over $30 million.

2,000 guests were in attendance at the Shanghai Exhibition Center, but even more were watching the ceremony online. The nuptials were held in a beautiful holographic castle that looked like something straight out of a fairytale, and the cake was an impressive 10-feet tall. Yeung walked down the aisle in a gorgeous custom Dior gown made from ivory satin and tulle. In the end, Yeung spent about three times more on her special day than Kim K did on all her weddings.

Sargis Karapetyan and Salome Kintsurashvili’s Wedding

23-year old Sargis Karapetyan, son of Armenian billionaire Samvel Karapetyan, got married in an elaborate wedding ceremony in June of 2016 in Moscow. The event cost upwards of $2 million, and took place in Safisa, the same venue in which Said Gusterieve held his $1 billion celebrations earlier that year.

The groom’s father funded the entire production, including the bride’s 3 custom made gowns, one of which was a $35,000 Elie Saab. 500 guests, which included the President of Armenia, came together to enjoy a performance by Maroon 5 and a bedazzled cake that towered over everyone in the room at nearly 20-feet tall.

Butterfly Wedding

English soccer player Wayne Rooney married his wife, Coleen Mcloughlin at the La Cervara Abbey in Italy. Mcloughlin flew to NYC 6 different times to find the perfect wedding dress, which she finally found in the form of a $130,000 gown from Marchesa.

Rooney flew guests out to the extravagant location in private jets, and everyone had lunch on a yacht. During the ceremony, guests were each given a small box full of butterflies that they were asked to let go as they said their “I do’s.” All expenses were covered for each of the guests and in total, the event cost nearly $7 million.

A Neverland Wedding

Larry Fortensky met Elizabeth Taylor in 1988 during his stay at the Betty Ford Center, where they both checked in for substance abuse issues. The two hit it off and ended up getting married in 1991, making this the 8th time Taylor would tie the knot. The couple spent just around 2 million for the event and had it at Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch.

The wedding, though not quite as expensive as some of the other ceremonies on the list, was still packed full of celebrities and luxury. The star-studded guest list included big names like Eddy Murphy and Liza Minnelli. The bride was walked down by Michael Jackson in her pastel Valentino gown valued at $25,000. The wedding was so high profile that members of the paparazzi were literally jumping out of planes to get inside and get some photos.

The billionaire decided on a fairly small ceremony, with 150 guests that were all flown to Sydney for his wedding in 2006. The entire affair cost a reported $90 million – enough to provide food for an entire country.

Martin married former model and actress Cathy Tsui in a ceremony that was put together by some of the best wedding planners on the planet. The nuptials took place in the Royal Botanical Gardens in Sydney, which boasted a view of the Opera House. The bride wore a 50-carat diamond necklace, along with her new 5-carat ring.

In the ’90s, singer Mariah Carey was on top of the world. The diva was at the top of all of the Billboard charts, and she and music exec-boyfriend Tommy Mottola had a beautiful wedding ceremony. The elegant affair was held in 1993 at the St. Thomas Episcopal Church in New York City. Security at the event was crazy, and even included a no-fly zone over the venue, which cost an estimated $200,000.

The Marriage of Tiger Woods

Golf pro Tiger Woods went all out to impress bride-to-be Elin Nordegren when they tied the knot back in 2004. Woods rented out an entire resort in Barbados and flew in 500 roses to decorate the place. He rented not only the rooms, but the beachfront area and the golf courses, too. In total, he dropped around $2 million on the lavish affair.

Woods also reportedly booked all available spots on that day with the only helicopter company available on the island, which meant that paparazzi couldn’t do the same to get aerial views of the event. Guests that joined the couple in Barbados include sports stars like Charles Barkley and Michael Jordan. Billionaire Andrey Melnichenko’s Wedding

Andrew Melnichenko is ranked as the 139th richest man in the entire world, according to Forbes. In 2005, he married model Aleksandra Kokotovic in a ridiculously expensive ceremony that cost him upwards of $30 million. Rumors swirled around that the Russian billionaire actually had a chapel shipped from his home country to France and had it put back together for the ceremony.

Superstar singers Whitney Houston and Christina Aguilera were on the roster for the event’s entertainment, each of which apparently charged over $3.5 million. Kokotovic, in addition to her modeling career, was named Miss Yugoslavia in 2002.
