Samuel Coleridge-Taylor and Jessie Walmisley married at the cusp of the 20th century. He was a celebrated composer from Britain, and she was a pianist. They met in college, where Jessie was six years older than Samuel, and married in 1899. As you might imagine, Jessie’s parents were adamantly opposed to the union.
However, they came around to the idea and on the day of the wedding, Jessie’s parents welcomed Samuel into their home with a handshake. The couple, unsurprisingly, faced intense racial issues. Sadly, Coleridge-Taylor passed away at the age of 37 due to exhaustion and other medical conditions.

A love story between an actor and a writer, in our opinion, is as good as it can get. These two have had their share of the not-so-pretty side of life, but as always, love wins it all. Sidney Portier has the special acclaim of being the first black person to win a Best Actor Oscar. He won the award in 1964 for “Lilies of the Field.” His philosophy was to present an image black people would be proud of. He said he did it for his kids since so few positive images of blacks in films existed at the time.
Joanna and Sidney met in 1969, but it was one of her last roles. After she married Portier, she decided not to pursue acting. Her last film was in 1972, so it was a surprise when she returned to television in 2018.

In January 2020, Justin Chambers made the tough decision to leave the show that made him famous. Dr. Alex Karev was one of the show's most popular characters. Jodie says Joshua Jackson loves that she is obsessed with him. She watches videos of the “Dawson’s Creek” actor whenever they are apart. Turner-Smith said she was actually shocked at the reactions of some people.
