Quirks, Talents, And Hobbies
Stephen also has some hidden skills of his own. In his downtime, the youngest Baldwin apparently enjoys skateboarding. Reportedly, after 9/11, Stephen decided to step out of the spotlight and spend more time on his passions: religion and extreme sports. He even combined both interests in a nationwide tour and directed a movie spin-off of a project called “Livin’ It.” The film was decently successful, selling around 500,000 copies to date.
One especially intriguing quirk about Stephen is that he has a Hannah Montana tattoo. Yes, that’s right. How did this happen? Apparently in 2010, he got the tattoo after a conversation he had with Miley Cyrus. Cyrus had promised him that she would get him a guest spot on Hannah Montana if he got the tattoo. Stephen followed through but, unfortunately for him, Cyrus flaked on her side of the deal and he never got the role.
An Impressive Ancestry
Though the Baldwins have created a remarkable acting dynasty, they also have an impressive ancestry. According to Mayflower History, all the Baldwins are descended from John Howland, a passenger on the Mayflower in 1620. The Mayflower was the English ship that transported the first English Puritans (or, Pilgrims) from England to the Americas in 1620.
These records indicated that the Baldwin brothers are considered the 14th generation of their family to live in North America. Also, because of their relation to Howland, they are distantly related to three American Presidents: Franklin D. Roosevelt, George H. W. Bush, and George W. Bush.
From The Wrestling Mat To Modeling
Before becoming an actor, Billy was just an average kid attending school. But one extracurricular activity he became involved with was wrestling. In the ‘90s, a local newspaper reported that Billy was an excellent wrestler in both high school and college.
Billy, however, was modest about his wrestling and claimed that he was not as good as they said, though his various championships and tournaments say otherwise. But the ‘90s had more in store for Billy and it was then that he started a successful modeling career. He was so successful that he had contracts with brands like Calvin Klein and Nike and ad campaigns with models like Naomi Campbell.
Three Out Of Four
In 2003, Alec received a nomination for both an Oscar and a Razzie award. His film “The Cooler” received the Oscar nomination while his film "The Cat in the Hat” received the Golden Raspberry (Razzie). But the Razzie award became a family affair when Stephen was nominated for one in 2001 for his role in “The Flintstones Viva Rock Vegas” and when Billy was nominated twice in the ‘90s.
In fact, in 1993, Billy almost “won” for Worst Actor in the film “Silver.” In 1995, he was nearly awarded a Worst Screen Couple award for his role in Fair Game with Cindy Crawford. Daniel (who may count himself lucky) is the only Baldwin who never received a Razzie nomination.
Alec And Kim
Alec met his first wife, Kim Basinger in 1990 when they starred as lovers in the film “The Marrying Man.” Three years later, they decided to get married. Two years afterward, they had their daughter, Ireland. Sadly, five years after that, Alec and Kim separated. Alec then embarked on a seven-year battle to stay in his daughter’s life.
The experience was so trying for him personally that he wrote a book about it called “A Promise to Ourselves: A Journey Through Fatherhood and Divorce.” Alec claims that Basinger spent $1.5 million in order to deny him access to his daughter. He labeled this as “parental alienation syndrome.” Because of this, the two are certainly not amicable exes.
