Mary Aiken, best known as Jackie “Moms” Mabley, is an American comedian and actress. She began her career performing on stage and became one of the best-known entertainers on the African-American vaudeville circuit. From there, she recorded numerous comedy albums and appeared in television and film, including “The Ed Sullivan Show” and “Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour.”
She was one of the first openly gay comedians in the 1920s and 30s and helped pave the way for other women in the industry. She goes down in history as a legend, and other greats like Whoopi and Wanda Sykes list her as one of the most influential people in their lives. Thank you for everything, Moms!
